Food Security & Nutrition Sector

Somalia, due to the overlapping structure factors that accumulated over the past period, faces regular and severe food insecurity situation which periodically turn to famine situation. This impacted the entire Somalis particularly the vulnerable, low-income, displaced, and marginalized households. Also, there is high rates of malnutrition with serious and above GAM levels particularly among children, pregnant and lactation women and girls which has great risk on the overall national nutrition status.
SODO contributes the efforts to eliminate hunger and reduce the vulnerability of these people. We promote income and employment generation, solve the underlining causes, and to reduce the dependency on direct aid.
Knowing the insecurity situation of the country, SOSDO enhances the urgent and regular classification of food and nutrition security status of different areas and ensures the access of our partners’ support and aid to needy people. Also, we improve the coordination between the food security, CCCM, Health, Nutrition, protection, and cash clusters and working groups for maximum benefit of the beneficiaries.
